Ape Canyon Re-Visited

Ape Canyon Trailhead

Mt. St Helens

It was a warm July evening in 1924 in a cabin on Mount St. Helens where four gold miners were taking a rest after what one could presume was a hard day’s work, when a number of hair creatures started attacking.

As one of the earliest violent suspected-Sasquatch encounters, the story is somewhat muddled from the good ol’ fashioned game of history telephone—where four miners turn into five, and two hairy ape-like creatures turn into twenty monsters. Regardless of the minute details, the story as we can best tell goes a little something like this:

The miners—Fred Beck, John Peterson, Gabe Lefever, Marion Smith, also accompanied by Smith’s son—were some 12 miles from Spirit Lake in Washington when they encountered a group of Sasquatch-sounding creatures.

They said they were walking erect like humans, but impossibly hairy with long, black hair draped down their bodies, pointy ears that stuck out from their heads and four short, stubby toes on each foot.

These were not the shy, timid creatures that we hear about in Sasquatch stories today. No, these 400-odd lbs creatures were out for blood. Only, it sounds like they didn’t fire the first shot.

While heading back to their cabin, the group encountered these creatures. And startled, Fred fired three shots, wounding the creature and causing him to topple off of a cliff.

That was a gigantic mistake.

The Attack at the Cabin in the Woods

Later that night, the men were resting in their cabin when they were startled by the loud thud of stones hitting the outside walls. The giant creatures were back to take revenge for their friend’s death.

The men heard the sounds of not only rocks, but of big 400 lbs bodies being thrown against the cabin walls. The creatures managed to tear a whole in the roof and rocks came raining down on the men.

Fred was hit by a rock, which he said knocked him unconscious for a while. But luckily all of the men survived. Hours later the sun started to rise, and the attack came to an end.

The group of creatures scurried off into the daylight leaving the men wondering what exactly it was that they experienced. With the coast clear, the men split from the cabin, presumably never to return again.

This wasn’t the first report of ape-like creatures in the area. But the prospector’s stories received such wide media attention that the United States Forest Service decided to investigate.

Rangers found nothing at the site of the alleged Sasquatch death at the bottom of the cliff. But at the cabin they found evidence of large rocks that were presumably tossed, along with a large 14-inch footprint.

But they remained unconvinced. They believed that the evidence was planted by the tail-spinning prospector’s themselves. Nonetheless, Sasquatch enthusiasts along with many members of the public today remain convinced that Ape Canyon is, or at least was, home to a group of these mysterious creatures.

While we wouldn’t recommend heading out to hunt them down yourselves because they seem particularly vengeful, if you do happen out to Mount St. Helens to do some Sasquatch spotting we recommend that you wear one of our very fashionable Sasquatch hoodies to show them that you’re on their side.

We’re not actually sure if our plan works, but what do you think?

Please let us know in the comments below, or email us.  We'd love to hear from you!

Sasquatch Encounters in the Nordegg Area, Canada

It would appear that a hot spot for Sasquatch activity is in the area surrounding Nordegg, Alberta, Canada. Nordegg is a small hamlet nestled in the Rocky Mountains in the southern part of the Canadian province of Alberta.

It boasts a beautiful, largely untouched setting, crystal blue waters and clean air. Perfect for a relaxing remote getaway for those that love exploring the outdoors, it’s no surprise that Sasquatch would take up residence in the area.

While they often see visitors traipsing around in the more popular areas surrounding the town, there’s a lot of space for them to run largely unbothered with miles of mountains on any side. Fresh water is abundant and trees can be in every direction, which is why many think Sasquatch might be in the area.

Sasquatch in the Nordegg Area

The Nordegg, Alberta area is home to many a Sasquatch sightings. The Bigfoot Field Research Organization has two Nordegg-specific Alberta sightings. The first in June of 1998, when a creature was spotted by a camper at Camp Alexo.

Then again in 2016 when two hunters experienced rock throwing and tree shaking while they were in the area. Plus, while it’s not the most detailed report, Sasquatch Alberta has a report that specifies not only tree structures, but also noises and a possible footprint related to Sasquatch in the area.

But sightings in the area are more popular than these sites let, but it’s not the sightings that make this area so popular for Sasquatch hunters. Instead it’s the occurrence of the tree structures. In fact, there’s a popular one that many Sasquatch enthusiasts are enthralled with.

Why Tree Strcutures?

The thing about tree structures is that they absolutely could be a naturally occurring phenomena. Trees break and fall over and storms wreak havoc in the woods, but the consistency in the look of discovered structures makes many believe that the placement is all too familiar to be coincidental.

Some elders and members of First Nations tribes in Canada believe that these structures are placed in commemoration of the birth of a new member of the Sasquatch community, others think it could be the marker of a colony or a territory boundary set up to signal the end of the habitat for juvenile members of the group.

These theories in and of themselves don’t prove the existence of Sasquatch, but if you pair them with the stories of rock throwing, eye shine in the woods, wood knocks and possible sightings of First Nations members in the area, it seems a little suspicious that they’d simply be a good ol’ fashioned coincidence.

While we don’t know what these tree structures symbolize either way, nor do we know if they symbolize anything at all. It seems that naturally occurring structures, especially at the rate that they’re spotted in the Nordegg area, seems to be a tad bit unlikely.

So if you decide to head to Nordegg, you may want to pick up a new Sasquatch Syndicate hoodie because it can get a little chilly in the mountains, and if you have a story to share from Nordegg, please let us know in the comments below, or email us.  We'd love to hear from you!

Magnetic Shielding

Countering Magnetic Fields

Your batteries may not be the problem

There are many Sasquatch energy theories out there, including a prominent one that these creatures have the ability to put out electromagnetic pulses or fields to travel inter-dimensional or render electronics useless.    But perhaps these fields could do things like alter brainwaves and consciousness as well.

While Sasquatch witnesses aren’t necessarily able to identify this (though you might want to listen to our Pine Island Ridge podcast, where some of this could be at play), there are other responses we see that could be related to electromagnetic fields.

As stated earlier it is a common perception that the often quick drain of batteries is related to a Sasquatch presence, Many Sasquatch witnesses talk about their phone or other electronic batteries drained while in the presence of these creatures.  Now besides being generally annoying, because no one wants to end up with a dead battery when they walk into the woods with 80-100% percent, this reduces our ability to capture images or other evidence that could be important in proving their existence.

But what if there could be some way to curtail this? A way that we could protect our phones and other electronics devices like Camera Traps from Sasquatch’s electromagnetic field?   Well, there might be, and it’s called magnetic shielding.

What is Magnetic Shielding?

Magnetic shielding is an engineering term that describes the practice of reducing or blocking the electromagnetic field in a defined space. These electromagnetic fields can reduce the battery life of electronics or somehow interfere with the workings of electronics.

It’s important to note that there isn’t a material that actually stops an electromagnetic field, nor can you absorb it. But it can be redirected which in-turn helps prevent it from touching sensitive devices like your smartphone and draining the batteries.

What kind of materials can redirect an electromagnetic field? Ferromagnetic metals, which are those that contain iron, nickel and cobalt, and they work because they already have their own magnetic properties which can help redirect other electromagnetic fields headed towards it.

Chances are you aren’t itching to wrap your phone in a layer of iron or cobalt, it probably wouldn’t make a great phone case—though it could look very industrial chic. But there are certain phone cases like the Defender Shield that are created to defend against invisible forces like RFID and EMF. There are also certain bags and cases that are out there that say that they are built materials that block certain properties like wavelengths.

It’s unclear whether devices like these would fight against any electromagnetic field sent out by Sasquatch, but you probably have a better chance keeping that phone battery up and running in one than without. If it doesn’t, just toss your phone into the front pocket of this very fashionable Sasquatch hoodie and RUN!

Have you ever experienced any Sasquatch-related phone battery drainage? Please share your stories in the comments below or email us, we'd love to hear from you!

Mythical Monsters

Lochness Monster

More in common than you might think

Sort Up in the Scottish Highlands, south of the country’s coastal city Inverness, you’ll find a deep freshwater body of water called Loch Ness. It’s shores are dotted with beaches, campsites and other summer tourist attractions. But not all of those who visit are daydreaming of spending days swimming in the lakes or nights by the campfire. Some visit in hopes of catching sight of the Loch’s most famous resident—a creature that’s rumored to have been lurking in the water for many years—the Loch Ness monster, known to locals as Nessie.

Chances are you’ve heard of Nessie, she’s one of the most well-known water-dwelling cryptids in the world. While her story has been whispered about since the beginnings of Scottish folklore, the first reported sighting in modern times was in 1933 when a couple described what they called a dragon or prehistoric monster lurking in the water.

Since the initial sighting, many have taken to the water, air or land to search for the mysterious creature who’s been a master of dodging lurkers for the most part. Everyone from big game hunters to Hollywood stars and eager vacationers have flocked to the area in hopes of snagging a photo or catching a tale they can pass along.

The Search Continues...

But though the mystery of Nessie lurks on, just like Sasquatch, we have found limited evidence to date.    There has been recent speculation she's a giant eel, and a few grainy images to prove that she exists.    But after 50+ years, predominantly the widely-believed theory is that the monster is a plesiosaur—a Mesozoic marine reptile that first appeared sometime during the Triassic period.    Sadly however the records show no other plesiosaurs exist in 2020 that we know of, -- sound familiar?  - - and with no real evidence, we’re left to wonder if Nessie really does lurk in the deep loch <or> if the collective belief is simply a great tale to pass along.    We do have to ask ourselves however,, what if the research and techniques used in the Eel Article for DNA collection did shed some light on how to capture DNA without a great way to obtain a sample?   Are the same sort of experiments available to be used on Sasquatch?     Suppose we collected Mosquitoes in the Pacific Northwest?    Could these same techniques apply?

At our last Alien Con in Dallas, TX our Founder Chuck Geveshausen and Dr. Jeff Meldrum talked about just that.   Sort of a modern day Jurassic Park technique so to speak, with Dr. Meldrum appearing as John Hammond walking around with his mosquito on a staff.     But, wouldn't it be ironic if the technique to discover Nessie really did work on Sasquatch?  I mean it seems likes its worth a shot.

Nessie and the Beast

Beyond being creatures that exist mostly in the mind of people waiting to see real evidence of their existence, there really aren't a lot of factors that tie the two together, but the do have some commonalities.

Both creatures, real or not, have existed throughout history since before we can remember. They’ve been here longer than any of us have and they’ll be here long after we’re all gone, whether in spirit or reality.

In fact, these creatures have something very big and very important in common. They ignite our imagination. They engage an unending and unwavering belief. Whether or not we’re able to see them, they exist as a form of entertainment and wonder.

From Fossil to Fake News

Interestingly enough, both Sasquatch and the Loch Ness Monster have for many years been hypothesized to be previously known creatures,    Sasquatch from Gigantopithecus, and Nessie from Plesiosaurs, and while not conclusive, these creatures fit two of the most logical explanations on what we know from the fossil record.   The amount of hoaxing has led the scientific community to call Fake News at just about every turn.

Cryptoeconomics

The Press and Journal reported that the Loch Ness monster contributed an estimated £41-million to the Scottish economy—and that’s a conservative estimate

The number was calculated by Gary Campell, a chartered accountant and the keeper of the official sightings register for Nessie. He used tourist numbers and confidential data from businesses and tourist organizations in the area.

It seems like a large number, but the Loch Ness monster is the biggest tourist draw in the area—who wouldn’t love to get their eyes on a possible prehistoric creature? In fact, Campbell further said in the same article that there are less than 10 days per year that the elusive creature isn’t mentioned in the press, but what about his mystical North American Counterpart?

Bigfoot is Big Business

Bigfoot and Sasquatch have a much larger audience pool and the larger potential for profit in places all over North America.  It is speculated that Bigfoot and Sasquatch as a brand in the U.S. and Canada generate over $75 Million Dollars to North American economies annually.      Speaking of which, our little non-profit could benefit from some of that spend to keep us going, and you probably need a new T-Shirt for for Summer right?    SHOP HERE

And hey if you don't need a shirt that's ok too, leave us your comments below or email us.  We'd love to hear from you.

The Great Pyramid

Who built the Great Pyramid

The Great Pyramid of Giza

The last of the Seven Wonders of the World that still stands, the Great Pyramid of Giza, is a mystery to us, even today. The structure that held the record for the tallest man-made structure for 3,000 years until England’s Lincoln Cathedral stole it’s thunder in 1300, boggles the minds of scientists, historians and lay people alike.

With an estimated weight of six million tones, standing at 479 ft tall with a base of 754 ft and the total structure size of 13 acres, it’s a massive architectural wonder. It’s said that the pyramid consists of 2.3 million limestone and granite rocks, some that weigh as much as 80 tonnes on their own.

How was it built?

The Great Pyramid of Giza sits on Giza Plateau near modern Cairo. The Great Pyramid, also called the Pyramid of Khufu or Cheops, is the largest of the three that was built under the rule of Khufu, the second pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty, for himself. The other two were built for his son Khafras and his son Menkaure.

We know that the pyramid was finished sometime between 2450 and 2560 CE. But beyond that, we know almost nothing. That’s because we’ve found no records of how or why it was constructed.

It’s most commonly understood that it was constructed as a tomb for the Khufu to be entombed in—though I do feel obligated to point out that his remains have never been found. It’s believed that they were stolen from the pyramid.

Though in the early 2000s a pair of French amateur Egyptologists said they believed it was still in the pyramid in an undiscovered chamber.

This theory would coincide with what we do know about Ancient Egyptian death rituals. However, not everyone believes this explanation. Especially considering the fact that it seems logistically impossible to place some of the blocks, namely the gigantic slabs of granite in the chamber meant to be Khufu’s tomb.

One of the theories out there is that the pyramid was built for and possibly by extraterrestrials, largely due to the overwhelming lack of information we have its construction and perhaps it is some sort of ancient power plant as Christopher Dunn discusses in his book The Giza Power Plant.
While some like the Journal of Applied Physics have their own theories on the Great Pyramid's potential uses.
But most modern Egyptologists believe that there is a simpler explanation as to why we have no record. They believe the Ancient Egyptians simply constructed it with technology that was so well-known to them that they felt no need to jot it down for future generations.

Did Sasquatch Help Build the Pyramids?

Aliens aren’t the only possible help that the Egyptians received in constructing their monument, a small population suspects that they used a “combination of technology and muscle” but it wasn’t just man.

In her book titled “Top Secret Sasquatch: Exposing the True Nature of Bigfoot and Its Controversial Connection to UFOs, the Fossil Record, and Human History (Forbidden Bigfoot, Part Two” Lisa A. Sheil proposes that the muscle the Egyptians used was from their friendly neighborhood Sasquatch.

It’s a short couple of paragraphs in her book, but her evidence consists of the fact that Sasquatch has been around for thousands of years and probably existed at the time, though I personally can’t find any record that says that they were spotted in and around Egypt at the time—which I’ll say could also be to the severe lack of records we have—and the fact that witnesses describe them as strong.

That being said, I couldn’t find any Egyptologists that weighed in on the topic, but most agree that the Great Pyramid was constructed over a period of 23(ish) years by employed and paid Egyptian workers that were hired for their skill—not Hebrew slaves as depicted in the Bible, but even that was put to question in an article by the Associated Press.

So how was the Great Pyramid constructed and what was it's purpose?   Well,  It remains one of the Seven Wonders of the World for a reason.... and whether or not Sasquatch had a role to play who knows - Perhaps ancient giants such as the biblical Nephillim may have survived and could potentially fit the bill.    That being said if one was present it sure would make moving all those stones that much easier......

Afghanistan Giant Killed

Giants Killed Classified Myth?
Sasquatch isn’t the only cryptid that we believe exists out there, we’ve probably all heard of the Loch Ness Monster and Rougarou, but what about Afghanistan giants—possibly the Nephilim?

It was 2002, when an alleged, still classified military mission came across these creatures. All the soldiers of a patrol in a report part of Afghanistan mysteriously went missing without a word, so a search party was sent out to see if they could find out what had happened.

The rescue party was descending a goat path down the side of a mountain when they came across a cave that had lots of rock, “bone matter” and a piece of what one soldier identified as military communication equipment outside of it.

The whole situation seemed off when, out of the cave they saw something moving at a speed higher than they expected, barrelling out of the cave. It was a monster—one with long, scarlet red hair past his shoulders and a scraggly beard. He was “at least 12 to 15 feet in height” and 1,100 lbs. It had six fingers and six toes, and it smelled “worse than a skunk” akin to a corpse that had been dead for a while.

The creature, three times the size of a man, came charging out of the cave and managed to “skewer” one of the soldiers on a pike before they managed to kill it. In the aftermath, the large, unexplained body was taken by a special unit. And, to make matters more mysterious, while the original after-action report that contained the entire story was rewritten.

Afghanistan Giant Killed: What Do We Know?

The Afghanistan Giant that was allegedly killed in 2002, sounds like it could be describing Sasquatch, or some relative creature. With its large stature, scraggly hair, strength and foul odor, is it possible the patrol ran into the Afghanistan version?

Many people familiar with this encounter actually believe the Afghanistan Giant to be a Nephilim, not a Sasquatch. The Nephilim is a biblical creature resulting from the mating of divine beings with human women. They are written about in the books of Genesis, Ezekiel and Numbers, and are described as being “great warriors and Biblical giants.”

While Snopes.com stated that the U.S. government said that they have no record or information regarding a death involving a giant. If the mission continues to remain classified, it’s not terribly surprising.

Some conspiracy theorists on Reddit propose that certain regions of the countries closed for travel are reserve-type spaces closed off so that visitors don’t disrupt the giant population in the country. However, it’s much more likely that these areas are dangerous to travel due to political forces.

But, the real question is, could this creature really be a Nephilim?

It’s a true mystery to ponder. While you’re doing that, make sure to grab our official camping mug so you can enjoy your coffee and listen to the Syndicate podcast while you’re out in the bushes—make sure to let us know if you spot your own Sasquatch!

What do you think about the Afghanistan giants? Do they exist? Are the Nephilim? Please let us know in the comments below, or email us.  We'd love to hear from you!

Environmental DNA

DNA Studies: The Search for Sasquatch Continues with eDNA

DNA is one of the great scientific ways that we learn about the organisms surrounding us. It helps us take a look under the hood, if you will, of everything that lives around us and understand each creature a little bit more.

So, it’s no surprise that proving the existence of Sasquatch would be significantly easier if we could get our hands on a piece of truly scientific evidence like DNA. But, thus far, we’ve had no luck and DNA studies have been moot when it comes to proving the existence of these mysterious creatures.

But the discovery and pursuit of environmental DNA has Sasquatch searchers excited. What if we could prove the existence of a creature, not by encountering them and taking a cheek swab or pulling out a lock of hair, but by testing the environment it lives in?

It would be monumental to the Sasquatch community and bring us one step closer to these creatures. One large step, one that we’ve never had access to before.

What is eDNA?

We know that DNA—deoxyribonucleic acid—is critical for the existence of any organism. It’s essentially a blueprint that carries the “genetic instructions for the development, functioning, growth and reproduction of all known organisms.” But to properly study the DNA of an organism, you for example, you need to have an actual sample.
Or, you did.

Environmental DNA or eDNA is the collection of materials from environmental sources—things like soil, snow, sea water, and, in some cases, air—to extract information about an organism without actually having to take it from them directly.

It works because as we live our day-to-day lives, we spew tiny pieces of ourselves into our surroundings that contain our DNA. Therefore, when we test the things around us, we should be able to get tiny little pieces of evidence that tell us about the organisms that interact with that environment.

eDNA and Sasquatch

Before everyone gets too excited, we haven’t had any luck with finding Sasquatch through eDNA yet. But Byran Sykes one of the leading researchers in this area has learned a lot about the evolution of other creatures.

In attempting to uncover information about the famed Yeti, Sasquatch’s Himalyan cousin, he was able to find DNA related to “an animal related to Paleolithic polar bears.” He’s also tested hair suspected of being from Sasquatch, but unfortunately found it to be attributed to other animals, namely in the bear family.

But the absence of evidence isn’t evidence of absence, as they say. And it’s entirely possible that one of these days we’ll manage to come across DNA in an environment that leads us to Sasquatch. Until then, we can keep searching for these elusive creatures.

We’re bound to find one soon enough, right?

If you’re headed out to do your own search for Sasquatch, you’ll definitely want to make sure you bring your hiking supplies, and don’t forget about your Sasquatch camping mug. And, if you find anything out there in the woods, make sure to let us know.

What do you think about eDNA? Do you think it could help us get closer to the answer we’re all seeking?

Please let us know in the comments below or email us, we'd love to hear from you!
